Honor Students Eligible for Appointment to West Point, Annapolis

     Spiritual and military training are featured at La Salle Military Academy, Oakdale, which is situated on Great South Bay on the estate of the late Commodore Frederick O. Bourne.  It Is a fundamental principle of Catholicism that religion and moral training are vital factors in preparing adolescent youth to assume their places In the community, the academy authorities believe, and for that reason instruction in Christian doctrine holds the place of honor in the curriculum.

Contacts With Religion

     Every opportunity for advancement in Catholic knowledge is at the disposal of the student. In addition, the friendly democratic daily contacts with religion and religious
influence in the development of the educators produce a strong and virile Christian gentleman. Besides the advantages of thorough educational training, covering all requirements for admission to any college, L. S. M. A. students may secure a commission in the United States Army as a second lieutenant if they successfully complete the R. O. T. C. courses at the school and at the Plattsburg Summer camp.


Honor Military School
 

     The school Is designated an Honor Military School by the Examining Board of the War Department, this secures appointment of the academy honor student to either West Point or Annapolis. During the past year the academy rifle team won the national championship of military academies, the hockey team' captured the interscholastic
championship of New York and the Annual was awarded highest honors! in the National Scholastic Press Association contests at Columbia, University of Minnesota and Marquette University.  The academy, formerly known as Clason Point Military Academy, was founded In 1883 as a Catholic boarding high school for boys. It was named In honor of St. John Baptist de la Salle.
